The Sock Report -Semadar

I was so excited to get to talk with Janel at stitches West this year and hear about her new project. I have been an admirer of Janel's socks for years. (Remember when I went to stitches West and squeeled cuz COOKIE A came to see me in my booth? Well shortly after that, Janel autographed her book for me. If you do not have Eclectic Sole and Enchanted Sole, you need them. They are socks one can dream about.)

So you can imagine my sheer joy when Janel invited me to be apart of The Sock Report.
I had no idea what I would make when she handed me this amazing skein of orange iron oxide yarn, but I went back to the hotel and started playing with a traditional lace motif on a sock.
I even wound it right away using the hotel lamp shade.

The Sock Report is dedicated to all things  fingering or sock weight yarn. We all know that sock yarn DOES NOT count as stash. (So instead of counting 4 rubbermaids the size of stemer trunks, I only need to admit to 2.5 of them) Sock yarn is amazing! I love it!

In honour of the amazing new Sock Report and my sock pattern Semadar, you can win a skein of sock yarn from my "Not Stash".
Since I leave for Warsaw in 2 days, the contest will run thru June 30th.

TO ENTER leave a comment on which pattern in the sock report is your favourite and what yarn you would use to create that item. Send a friend over and get another entry. Tweet this contest and tag the post #SockReport and get another entery.

Aside from Suki and Semadar? Tulip Dreams is my favorite shawl and I would make it out of mmmmalabrigo sock!

I also like Tulip Dreams and have some lovely Silk fibers to create it with.

why dies google always loose my first well executed comment? I loved being with you in the Hotel room sharing your joy and watching the Magic happen! I think Semader is a wonderful design and you are a never talented designer. I think using Tactile Fiber Arts yarn is always my first choice (I am so spoiled for a newbie) and I hope that some very talented knitter wins yarn from your "Not Stash" and makes your sock and takes a picture and shares it with us!

How great! An online magazine devoted to using our non-stash of sock yarn :D I loved your Semadar sock of course, I love your designs. I would use some Madelinetosh Light Merino in Nebula (dark blue green) colorway.

That is one hard question! there are many great designs that are innovative (hard to do with the wealth of great patterns out there)
I really like the Cambrium sock--it looks great in the tosh sock too (love me some madelintosh yarn but I have also been wanting to try sweet georgia sock.

I love the look of Cambium. (Admittedly my degree in botany may make me just a teeny bit biased here!) I wonder, though: is it a dropped-stitch pattern? How well do those hold their shape over time?

the dropped stitches on the 'Zombie Sock" from sockmadnes #2 (i think) have held up remarkably well over the last few years.

So Cambium should not give you any problems.

Also I LOVE SUKI and this is Miriam's first big design. She did a wonderful job!

I love tulip dreams and I'm wondering if one of my celtic memory skeins has enough yardage.

I love Semadar and Devonium, but the stitch combination in Cambium is intriguing to me. I'm thinking I must make it using Wollmeise.

My favorite pattern and the one that really stood out to me immediately was Cambium. I've not seen any socks like that yet and can't wait to knit them. I am thinking of using some HPKY Donegal sock for them but have so many lightly verigated yarns that I think this will work with!

Let's see... There's Midsummer's Dream and Suki and Tulip Dreams and all of the Curiouser and Curiouser set and Arcadia and Cassian and...

What do you mean -- pick one. One??!! No way can I pick just one.

Thanks for great post :)

I love the designs in sock report! This is fantastic idea. I think my favorite is Suki and love the combination of blue and orange sample - Pagewood Farms Denali. Thanks for the contest!

Congratulations for your participation to this lovely new magazine! I look forward to seeing lots of future issues of The Sock Report.

Arcadia is the one I'd love to cast on very very soon. And I could see it in some Natural Dye Studio Dazzle, or why not indulging myself with some Mei Li. If only the pattern required only 400m and not 420m ...

I had to buy the complete set of patterns. Marigold will probably go first on my needles. I have some lovely handdyed alpaca/merino from a local spinner to use for this.

Hm... it seems the internet didn't keep my first comment for some reason. Well, hopefully this time. Some of my favorites: Yours look like a very interesting knit, the Sky Blue fingerless gloves look super comfy & fun to wear, and the Cassian shawl is simply GORGEOUS. As for yarn? Well, I'd start with my Knitpicks tonal in "Summertime" and go from there. :)

I would knit Tulip Dreams and Cassian in a heart beat. I would love some substantial squishy yarn that is mostly blue! Anything blue, I really should get out of my blue rut. I love to knit socks and always have at least 2 pair on the needles. I knit 2 on 2 circs so I don't have that dreaded sss!

I am brand new to sock knitting so Cambium looks good to me. I would probably use Misti Alpaca handpaint. Am working on my third pair EVER and first pair with misti. Really love it.

I'm kind loving the pocket pals. What a fun way to use up the odds and ends that are still hard to part with.
