As the wind blows.....

ok, i hate the wind. i think i am pretty justified in why i hate the wind. I lived in homestead fla for hurricane andrew. so the weather this weekend is supposed to be windy. we have a swirly mass that looks like a hurricane coming in.

so i am unsettled today. i, thankfully, have no reasons to leave this house. the kettle is on, a box of fiber from tax money is here. i will take a picture of all the colours and show you. :-)

so i am going to sharpen pencils, pull out graph paper and play while the kids watch qubo. ( ok i LOVE qubo, it has been so long since there was something decent to watch on weekend mornings and afternoons. and did i mention that dragon knits? what could be more lovely!?)

the last thing we did in our homestead house was pray and my daddy read the following.
so i leave you today with these words of comfort

Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD,
"He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes

and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

( this is my favourite part, it crescendos into a massive declaration of love )

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him

and show him my salvation."

this close...

....to being done!
i have a baby shower in the morning, these are obviously for the baby

pattern beckah knits' baby Moc-a-soc (etsy)
Us2
Sugar and cream tan
and this bernat handicrafter cotton fingering stuff i got for 10 cents. just happens to be perfect for this project!
my dad made real leather moccasins for me as a baby and i think the first two kids got some, too, then the kits were too hard to find. in honour of that tradition i made these for michelle's baby. she is not finding out the sex of the baby. so i hope these are p[lain enough to be for either boy or girl.

i have a few sock designs i am working on, one i actually sent to knitty and had good feedback on. so waiting to see if they want it. if not it will be made available here. ( its a scary thing to send your ideas out in the world.)
but in my graph 'd designs i found this:
sandmen from starwars and a detailed map on the inner workings of a pyramid.

Some business stuff

Since the loss of Gigi, alot of her patterns are no longer online b/c of sites being down. (please give her family some space)

i owe you all a long post!

over the last few months, ok really about 9 mos, i have been going to the dentist to get work done on the same tooth. thank goodness for dental coverage!

well the pain has been so bad i tend to collapse at my mom's. valentine's day i was totally out of commission. came home, collapsed in the recliner and figured i'd eventually cook the steaks i had been marinating.

while i slept, Tirzah and Kezzi organized the kids into a cupid army. They set up the folding table, got the table cloth, the good china, matching silverware, made the salads and baked potatoes. created menus and greeted daddy at the door for his reservation and seating.

i woke up, threw the steaks on the george foreman and had a lovely dinner at "Oooh LaLa Cafe"
where we dine every valentines day. :-). it is a tradition.

this year was amazing. i have never felt so loved.

i got a lil bling and presents too, but the kids rock! it totally makes up for the messy bedrooms!

Friday the dentist pulled the offending tooth. i had a sinus and ear infection b/c there was a hole under my gums into the root that never showed on the xrays. i kept telling them it hurt....

so friday began our multicultural weekend. we had some wonderful stuff planned that totally fell apart. but G-d had other stuff instore. everything culminated with worship sat night. we had a lil country, native american, mong, sri lankan, chinese, hebrew and the rockin' college band, Melodic Resolve, all do worship.
i ran video, sound, and powerpoint for all of them. oh, and the ministerial luncheon, i cooked and had some wonderful help ( so much for resting after the tooth stuff!) one of the guys brought us all roses.

but it was so much fun. we left at 11pm, got up at 5 am to go to sonora and get the boys from WWW. there a knitblogger friend's son also attended. Then ofcourse stopped at "By Hand Yarns" (my favourite part of dropping the kids off for camp!)

where i got a present:

i have been wanting a haiku bag for so long! whoohoo!
yes there is a lil yarn in there, too.
now the rest of our tax $ goes to brakes for sam's car....which decided this weekend to fail.
but i feel so much better, once i am able to eat i will feel even better. sorry to everyone for the crankiness!

Socks with a cause

emily has another pattern to raise awareness, this is Pearl's daimonds socks to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. it is hard to believe it has been 3 yrs since we were waiting to see if Tirzah had leukemia ( she does not, it is HSP).
lets help emily by buying the pattern in honour of her aunt, all proceeds will be donated from the pattern.
and you can join her contest too.

February Socks

Sam turned 39 last week. sooo old! :-)
i almost had his sox done for his bday, i finished them the next morning. oops!
i finally stole them back so i could wash them and take a picture.

Sam I Am sport weight from Luxe Fibre (the fabulous natasha!) size 5? needles i think
toe ups, short row heel and sewn bind off
i have a little extra for another kid size pair of socks.

while i was knitting them, tali-who will only wear hand knit sox- asked "where's my 'ellow and pink Peets?" i said i would make her some. she dug through my yarn, got needles and dumped it in my lap. :-) so i had to stop on dady's and make peets for tali, this would by why the socks werent done on time.

so here are tali's peets for daddy's bday too :-)

US 2's
yarn from an etsy seller aands1? i think. Knit-It-Good any way, it soft and merino and they same type i made Zemeira's chanukah socks from. i did not do a short row heel on these so they would grow a little more with tali's foot. she has out grown 3 pairs so far.

The sun! soo warm!

We had a delicious thaw this weekend, lower Paradise is free of snow, now we just have to work on the area north of the Dam!

Kezzi learned to golf, and is pretty darn good!
am i surprised? nope. she is patient and wants to do things the right way. this kept her occupied for about 2 hrs.

the kids got to play on the "porch swing" at Peggy's house (their music teacher) with their friends. tali really didnt want to share it. there was alot of "why!?" cuz we have reached that stage, and "my turn!"

and the boys were in lego land, running in the fields, and smacking golf balls any way they could... not tali also was in on the lego fun since she no longer tries to eat them.

whether its tying a yellow ribbon around an oak tree or pinning a loop of ribbon over your heart, ribons have become symbols of awareness and support.

in the booth

this is pretty cool.
i found this link. you punch in your feelings on the issues and it saya which canidate is the best match.

it was pretty interesting. i am voting for who i should be i guess :-0)

http://glassbooth.org/

shew!

we are finally back home. thurs's storm took out our phone, but not our dsl. weird i know, but true.
friday we picked up kids from my mom's and stayed til this afternoon.
i got the driveway here shoveled enough to be able to park. and snapped the shovel in half. :-)

while at my parents the following happened:

sam learned to knit by latern light. that's right old school, immersed in the ways of knitting from the past... he soaked it all up and became a knitter!

it obviously was not by choice. the power eventually returned, but the night was spent in a lil dark house listening to snow crash 80 ft down from the tree all around us. here he is reading bleak house and knitting.

the kids played and built a snow fort. their first. in colorado they were too small to do anything but sit in a sled.

i still had the congregational lap top with me so i knit and played, received horrible news on 2 cyber mates. i have beem trying to recover all the work one has done, finding scattered patterns here and there. completing patterns. typing and recreating documents.
and knitting:

purple socks for Gigi Memorial KAL
and finished a bunny, started a lamb ( fuzzy mitten's patterns)

i had only a small ammount of yarn with me and no clean needles, in the future i wil pack better heehee :-)

yet another reason...

What did Sudanese President Bashir do with a world-infamous war criminal? He gave him a promotion.
Bashir has appointed the militia leader who helped orchestrate genocide in Darfur as a senior adviser on ethnic affairs.
This brash and consistent defiance of the U.N. won't stop - not as long as Bashir has China to protect him.
We must tell China that enough is enough, and our representatives can help. Leaders in Congress are gathering support for an official letter to President Hu of China letting him know that his indifference toward Darfur is unacceptable.

As you know, China is Sudan's largest trade partner and foreign investor. It is Sudan's biggest defender in the international community, and it is the regime's largest arms supplier. But China played a crucial role in getting Sudan to agree to a hybrid peacekeeping force last summer.
Simply put, China has the power to put an end to the games Bashir is playing. Our representatives must pressure the Chinese government to lead the world community and end the violence in Darfur. Click here now to send your message to your representative.

HAVE WE FORGOTTEN HILARY CLINTON GAVE CHINA FAVOURED NATION STATUS!?
yet another reason i dont want her for president

( how the clinton's left the white house last time would be another. if they dont respect the office of president enough to not trash a white house and steal items from it, how can they serve properly in that office!!!)

St Brigit's Day

For Becka

"What cancer cannot take away"

It cannot take away your faith,
shatter your hope,
or lessen your love.
It cannot destroy true friendship,
invade the soul,
or take away eternal life.
It cannot conquer your spirit.

Thinking and praying for you.

Gigi

Momma Monkey was lost to the world. Not only does she leave a hole in our knitting world, but she leaves behind small children and a husband in the navy. please pray for her family.

she was a wonderful woman who gave us socktopia and monkey toes. Ravelry is trying to save her designs and work. if you have knit her socks, please help out. there are missing files and pictures. there is also talk of Memorial KAL's and donations to Lupus foundations in her name.

( i was going to blog and complain about the 8" os snow dumped on us , loosing power and phone lines...right now i am just thankful to be with my family)
