Needles- a quick review

After a wait, i got a phone call from my LYS saying they finally had addi lace turbos.
so i of course needed one!
they have been billed as being sharper than the old addi's and not quite as slick to help control the lace weight yarn.
this was Skacel's answer to the new Knit Picks needles.
here are all three -from the top, old addi turbo size 1, new addi lace size 1, and knit picks circular size 1.

between the old addi and the new you can not really see any difference! same shape, same taper. if i had some hi quality engineering cailpers maybe we could detect where the change has been made.

knit picks needle still has a better tapered sharp tip in comparison.

the biggest difference between the knit picks and addi lace besides brass versus nicke,l is that the size is printed on the cord for the addi lace turbo. Addi is ofcourse lifetime guaranteed. but any issues i have had with my knit picks needles, have beem solved or replaced at no cost to me. so i would consider knit picks needles to be unofficially gauranteed also.

the price comaprison:

addi turbo original $12.80

addi lace turbo $14.99

knit picks classic circular $4.99

in the future i do not for see buying any more. i dont see a marked improvement to justify the $10 difference. i would rather spend the $10 on yarn. So did Skacel really listen to its public and change anything or was this just a marketing ploy to boost needle sales......

i am going to check the US size 6 differnces/similarities and i will let you know what i find out.

needles part deux

the difference in the new addi lace turbos in the largest size they make is a definite improvement.
pictured -from top Addi Lace, Addi Origiunal , Knit Picks Options.

the end is more tapered and sharper.
Actually the addi lace US6 is longer and more tapered than the knitpicks options US6.

It looks like it may also have a slightly pointier tip, too.

Addi lace turbo $15.99

Addi Turbo $15.25

Knit Picks needle tips $3.99 + cord $3.99= $7.98 or
if purchased as part of options set $59.99 divided by 9 sizes= $6.66
the larger sizes are definitely better than the original addi turbos, slightly more expensive depending on your source.
so if you need a needle immediately or are not already an owner of the knit picks options needles, you will like these.

We had a great time last night with Ruth the Dizzy Ewe.
yes, the one who Yarn Harlot blogged about!
you can look at her lovely gallery and see what we are enjoying.
the classes include the fiber!
i wish i was going to saturday's yarn dying class but i will be at richardson springs.

she brought lots of yummy fiber with her.

this is only a third of the fiber in the room, which was displayed in colour groups.
tirzah fell inlove with peacock and primrose (she plans to ply them together.
kezzi had a much harder time and wound up needing an oz of each of her 4 colours.

L & V takes me away!

so we spent thurs and friday at the eye Dr. new glasses and seeing if HSP is effecting Tirzah's blood vessels in her eyes.

we apparently came home with pink eye! seriously!!!!! so no girl scouts, award ceremony or woman's lunch this week! boohoo! it is so sad!

the biggest issue was tirzah had to go to UCDavis today and needed to since her sore throat has her kidneys spilling over again, but i cant bring the kids, sam has to work, and i had to take the pink eyes to the ped dr here. wish i had clone!

so my dad, because he totally rocks, and my mom who is really my rock, took tirzah to ucdavis. and gave me phone updates. she had smacked her knee pretty good, the blood issue, the sore throat, her fever this weekend, all were checked. more blood more tests to be done next week..oh and answers? ha! nope! no answers, same ole stuff! blah!

so in the midst of the goop and grime of the morning maura, my L&V pron swap spoiler sent me a wonderous box!

you may not be able to tell but the kids already tore into the playdoh

these are the most awesome ladybugs! they are so fat and cute! heehee

that chai chocolate bar is calling me.....

here is the socktopia sock i am working on. i had to restart the leg because in travel i dropped a stitch! it was not something i could save. so we are back to here. this is sock #2 so they are almost done.

my monkey sock has been plaguing me. on size 1 needles the colours pooled so bad! size 0 needles it was perfect....cept the material was too rigid! i couldn't get my foot in! so i am giving a size 2 a try. so far no pooling colours. i will keep you posted!

this week is the week of the dizzy ewe being here for our mini spinning guild weekend. i cant attend saturday, but will blog thurs and friday so you can see what we are up to. (saturday is ofcourse DYING!!! boohoo!!)

enough whining! sheesh!

zemeira, bella, and lucy turn 5

These are all the "names" of child #5.

Her real name is Zemeira. She was such a pretty baby we called her Meira-bella. That became Bella. Then she watch Narnia and became LUCY.

Today she is 5. This is the outfit she has decided to wear today in honour of the celebration. (ignore the dirty door!) sunfaded pink coat with purple horizontal striped dress and vertical stripe pants.
Tali is wearing the sweater i crocheted for Bellas first bday, she wanted to be in the picture too.

Yom HaShoah

By sunday- Holocuast remembrance day, i may forget to post this... but if you see me with a paper clip here is why:

Norwegians have proudly embraced their countryman, Johan Vaaler, as the true inventor. During the Nazi occupation of Norway in World War II, Norwegians made the paper clip a symbol of national unity. Prohibited from wearing buttons imprinted with the Norwegian king’s initials, they fastened paper clips to their lapels in a show of solidarity and opposition to the occupation. Wearing a paper clip was often reason enough for arrest.

Some students in 1998 did some research, and discovered that citizens of Norway, where the paper clip was invented, and the the norwegians wore paper clips on their lapels as a sign of patriotism and resistance against Nazi tyranny during the war years.

The students began a project collecting paper clips. We have been wearing paper clips for Yom HaShoah for so long, it seems funny that they began this project less than 10 yrs ago!

Whitwell students set up a Holocaust museum on school grounds with the help of two German reporters, Peter Schroeder and Dagmar Schroeder-Hildebrand. They took a railcar that had been used to transport prisoners to Nazi death camps and turned it into a small museum. "This is the only Holocaust memorial in the world dedicated, built and managed by children," says Roberts.
The Holocaust Project has collected 32.5 million paper clips from all 50 states and 40 countries. A documentary, Paper Clips, will opened in theaters around the U.S. november 2004.
passover is almost over! we usually have 2-3 seders.
this year we had 4 seders and a presentation that we attended.
our congregational seder had 127 people. G-d graciously gave me a Chef who
cooked some wonderful dishes and tirzah and kezzi made the matza ball soup...400 matza balls!

another momentous event happened today- i will spare you the pictures!
but tali used her potty today!!!! whoohooo!
potty trained for summer??? we shall see.

Thanks to my secret pal for the lovely stitch markers she sent!
each one had a letter of my name :-)

i haven't had time to knit anything lately except a bamboo kippa.
royal bamboo is soo soft! it is wonderful.

that is all for now! :-)

binging and purging

we are preparing for Pesach.
this is my favourite holiday. once i can getto the holiday that is...for now we are eating up the leaven-that would be the binge, and vaccumming the cabinets and searching for all the hidden chametz in our food-the purge.
why do they put yeast in EVERYTHING? and do we really need corn products filling up our foods and sweetening them? does chickenbroth need yeast?
i went to put silverware in the drawer and nticed all the crumbs hidden under the drawer liners.
arghh! so out came the drawer for a proper dousing.
and while i have been doing this i have been thiking about how no matter how we try 2 things seem to creep their ways in to our lives the world and sin. (yeast represents sin in passover)
so as we collected the chametz and removed and cleaned and washed and emptied the vaccum, we also prayed.
now...i have 150 chicken breasts and matza balls for 100+ people to make.
so i will see you all after the next couple seders
