i love the cooking, but doing that and cleaning with 6 kids sucks, so we go to mom's.
2. Do you buy a fresh or frozen bird? Frozen
3. What kind of stuffing? depends on the bird. this year cranberry curry cornbread
4. Sweet potato or pumpkin pie? Pumpkin pie and pumpkin dream pie
5. Do you believe that turkey leftovers are a curse, or the point of the whole thing? Leftovers are what we live on the rest the week, and make great snacks while black friday shopping
6. Which side dish would provoke a riot if you left it off the menu?
7. Do you save the carcass to make soup or stock? No, i get my mom to chop it for me cuz i dont touch it or the tendons...
8. What do you wish you had that would make preparing Thanksgiving dinner easier? a prep cook, a self cleaning kitchen, a baby holder
9. Do you get up at the crack of dawn to have dinner ready in the early afternoon, or do you eat at your normal dinner hour? early to cook the turkey snack all morning, dinner about 3 pm
10. If you go to somebody else's house, what's your favorite dish to bring?
a turkey covered with spices from india and sweet potatoes covered with brown sugar and pecans
11. What do you wish one of your guests wouldn't bring to your house?
12. Does your usual mix of guests result in drama, or is it a group you're happy to see? always happy to see!
13. What's your absolute favorite thing on the menu? everything
14. What are you thankful for this year?
sam's new job... both of his bosses, that i am not pregnant . :-)
Today is a day for family get togethers.
Which can be really great, or really not.
i have a wonderful family, which i am with most days not just holidays.
our thanksgiving will be with 4 generations as usual. we also have a tradition of taking in single people with nowhere to go for thanksgiving. When i lived in Italy this was especially true, wall to wall GI's, so you could barely walk! i love it. i love tons of people at holidays...sam...well he tolerates this in me. :-) that is why we have 6 kids, so i can have a house full of people and he doesnt have to go anywear. ( he is sick and still in bed, poor baby!)
we have 8 pies, pumpkin cake 1 bay leafed/garlic turkey (cuz we live in a bay tree paradise) and a masala turkey with cranberry curry cornbread stuffing and mango ginger chutney, cuz even though our indian friends wont be with us today, they left a lasting impact on our lives and palettes.
Thanksgiving is a tricky holiday in our house. touching the bird makes me puke. so sam cleaned it and stuffed it for me so i can eat it tonight. also since my entire adult life i have been pregnant or breastfeeding, there is the added child on the otherside of the gate screaming cuz mommie is basting the bird or the year we spent at the hospital cuz pregnant girls should not lift 25lb turkeys in and out the oven.
this year luckily i just have the leech baby. people tell me i am going to miss it one day, that i should relish these moments with the last baby.
after a decade of it, i currently doubt i will miss it. but when she is 15, i swear i will remind her there was a day i couldn't move or breathe without her being attached! with that said i leave you with this:
For those of you who have a problem relative to deal with today. next year make them this hat to wear!

i tried to get an outside pic but it is late in the day so it is still dark
lara, see the tiny circ... the bodice was done with knit picks, which made the lace so nice and easy, but they do not have 16" 0r 12" for these sizes, so the sleeves are an addi 12" circ. hope to wear for thanksgiving.... do you think i can get it done???
also i restarted the denim flower basket shawl for my lacevember project.... so i may have to forfeit my lil star by my name in order to finish this.
maybe i will get sam to rent a stupid movie so i can focus on knitting.

I picked up a wonderful box at the post office today.
my sockret pal hand dyed the yarn for me! how great is that? it is soo lovely the perfect shades of green (it actually matches my eyes) and purple! also in the box are a gourmet chexmixy snack, a journal, gel pens (i love gel pens) stickers, and an austentaion!!! cant wait to brew some tea and curl up with the book and snack.
tali was in my lap half of last night's spinning so we will see how "quiet" that moment will be.
Thank you sockret pal! I love it!
also thank you to brooke for the spin soaking advice. gonna try to do it before it rains!
Here is all the stuff i have been spinning. the yarn on the swift looks like REAL yarn. it is a pretty consitent hvy worsted. yippeee! i have enough of it to actually make something!
how on earth do you people spin tiny lace weight with out it crinkling on itself? i will not be using a tictac for scale...maybe a quarter....
the natural is wonderful. so is the rose garden stuff.
but the burgandy and green is horribly over spun. it has not been soaked. none of them have yet. i was told it isnt finished till you soak it. does it help with the crinkly pigtails?
of to vote. if you dont vote, do not complain....

they had booths there. one featured hand crocheted items from kosovo. the name on the was who had made it. i bought this one.
the lighting is
bad, the flash was off. but i thought it would make a lovely challah cover. it is size 30 probably cotton mercerized thread. about 18 inches at its longest point. and has nine stars which is half of 18. and 18 is Chai- life. it will go with the russian shawl i brought home from moscow and the knit baby hat from estonia. and the linens of my great grandmother. my own fiber museum is taking shape.
my family is so sad over all that is going on. and all i can think about is something ted said about 13 years ago...
you see he has a MEGA mega church. a church some see as crazy sometimes. the people would attend services in tennis shoes so they could run laps around the building. then there are the streaming banners and flags that are waved during worship. Ted was talking and relayed how this started to my dad... one day during a sermon, he was sweating, took out a handkerchief to wipe his brow. it remained in his hand as he preached. and at some point he shook it as he got into his sermon. the next week there were lil handkerchiefs being waved in the congregation. they got bigger , bandanas, and bigger and became huge flags. then the flags needed runners to go before them so they could wave in the wind. at the end of this Ted shrugged his shoulders and said "what do you do when your church is out of control?".
Compromise begins at those moments where you chose to look the other way, not act in the authority G-d has given you. I do not want a life of compromise. I love the book "No Compromise" by Keith Green. As a jewish bride the words consecrated mean so much. Those are the words the bridegroom whispers in her ear. "behold, you are consecrated unto me according to the laws of moses and israel." consecrated. set apart. made for him. As a Christian, i hear those same words whispered From my L-rd. i was made for Him. made to be different, set apart. uncompromising.
this week i was asked to compromise on a liturgical statement. to take it back, change it, make it less offensive and more current with today's line of thinking. It caused quite a heated arguement. it is something i can not compromise on.
but how many little compromises have i made this last year? how many times did i roll my eyes and say nothing when blatant sin was present either in my life or those i love? if i can take a stand on one, why not on all? what is the greater offense, confronting sin or allowing it?
a brother told me that he is all about grace. that's it. grace for himself, grace for others. grace for some reason is being used as a christian word for tolerance. THIS IS NOT GRACE!!!!
Titus 2 verse 11
11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
grace doesn't look the other way. grace doesn't compromise. grace consecrates us.
Gayle, mrs haggard, will be issuing a note of encouragement, which wil be read with her husband's apology/explanation at both of tomorrow's services. pray for her. another colorado pastor's "immoral conduct, indescertions" led to his son's suicide. pray for the five haggard children. pray for the exhuberant new lifers and for their trust to be in G-d, not man.
men fail. G-d does not.
