SeCrEt GiFtInGs!

So back at the beginning of summer i got this really awesome box from my SP5. and then i rarely heard a word from her. i was worried she may have been a victim of the hurricanes when reveal time came around.
so sam went to the post office on his way home for lunch (he works 3 min away)
and he brought home 2 boxes! one from his mom with a beard trimmer.
and the other was my reveal from my SP5. it is huge! Her name is Nik.
apparently she is very busy and has been collecting fun stuff to send.
i need to get the pictures off my camera to post. lets see if i can go down the list.
labels that say my name, 2 sets of needles, patons alure, and 3 skeins encore yarn, and 2 skeins of this great novelty yarn, a debbie bliss kids book, pooh bear books with lil stuffies, scarpbooking stuff, bath and body works...(don't you love that place!?) n an awesome green bag, a lil green purse, a knitting needle zippered travel case and a cute tube for storing needles, 3 sets of knitting notecards that are very cute! a magnetic board so you dont loose your spot in a pattern, stickers, and a barnes and noble basics of knitting and crochet book. shew! i think i got it all! it was so fun! thanks Nik! i am overwhelmed!
check out the gorgeous bag she made (on her site).

We are packing for 5 days in NYWC in Sac. it will be a heavenly week. great bands, speakers, comedy clubs, DAVID CROWDER leading worship, (you gotta love the geeky looking guy when he leads you in worship! he is a favourite! definitely named david for a reason), plus all the free stuff they give you and the new ideas and just the refreshment. you actually come back excited and wanting to work with these looney teens! there is a special college seminar this year. since we have had so many graduate high school this year and really need to find a way to fill that void, it may be worth skipping kutless since we have seen them 3-4 times already. i am so excited for chris. this is his first year. and since i am 9 months pregnant, it gives sam some one with energico to run around with. i am gonna sit, enjoy, knit, and wobble around. this is the first baby i seriously Waddle with. (heehee i still have only gained 8-9 lbs total...as i sit here eating M&M's. good baby!)
My parents signed the papers on their house. it is really coming along nicely. they power washed it and made a HUGE difference. new pergo floors go in tonight, paint is being picked out, carpets cleaned, everything scrubbed and bleached. they have made a big change in it already. i am so happy for them! SPACE! (they have been in 340 sq ft, while dad got his buisness going.) can you imagine watching all 5 of my kids in 340 sq ft?! they are saints! have you seen the fridge with the soft serve icecream dispenser? if i ever hit the lotto, i would buy that for mom. i think it is the one thing her house lacks! my uncle moves into his new house this week too.
all while we are in sacramento and having a baby. so i feel useless. but i am so excited for them!

my houston aunt came thru everything great. anna is in beaumont. waiting to hear how she faired. hurricane season lasts thru november. seems soo far away.
tomorrow is my last knitwits nite til the baby is ready to travel "to town".
about 3 weeks til she arrives. what a crazy time of year this is for all of us! poor tirzah, who knows when she will get a birthday party!

after working at knitwits today, i came home, washed and dressed kids and got into the car to go to a wedding. it is kinda a friend, but not really. our pastor's son, he has not actually lived here the last 3 yrs we have, so we only had talked at holidays,etc... now he and his wife will be living up here.
corrine looked very lovely. simple and elegant dress. poor pastor doug, he almost didnt make it through the ceremony he was presiding over! dad didn't get to do my wedding. i hope he will get to do my kids' weddings. bella was wondering when the wedding princess would dance at her ball. the kids didnt understand why this wedding didn't have dancing and wine..not that they drink..haha. so i had to explain the difference between JEWISH weddings and BAPTIST weddings. (i am not a very good baptist.) duane was actually less goofy than usual. So MAZEL TOV Duane and Corrine!
now i am going to crash! long day!
oh for those near to these... Interweve Knits has some scarf style contests going on. prizes and stuff.

we had a lovely weekend, while i worked at KnitWits all weekend, & Sammy took the kids on a 3 1/2 hour hike, which they all did without carrying until bella needed to be carried to the car. ;-)
unfortunately he caffinated them so even though they were tired, it took forever to go to bed!
i finished a baby bonnet in annie blatt victoria ribbon, lavender-ish. it only took half of it, so i am gonna make a second for a friend. it is very cute, took pix, when i get my daddy to download them...they will be posted. want to make an ivory one for the Simchat Habat dress my mom makes each girl. the boys have bris outfits, if it was a boy i was gonna use the one she made my brother...since he doesn't have a boy, i figured i would. But it is a girl..so no need to. Stashed away for safe keeping....and a nephew one day?

Chris hung out with me this afternoon and we had a lovely time dressing up the Knit Wit and recording her accomplishments...chris', not the head on a stick. She has some lovely stuff. it must be nice to get to knit at work! gosh, wonder why you elbow is sore?
working on a zen scarf for knitwits, gave shelynn her quattro green one. and i am searching for the right thing for my needles ex pal. the secret pal was easy. i was browsing the participants blogs, some are very impressive, some have great skills but use inadequate fibers....VERY inadequate. you know the stitches would lay nicer if it weren't a cheap acrylic, and it makes you a little sad. so far no one has said they only knit with quivut...what a relief! ;-)

my family is in reno for the airshow, parents, grandpaw, aunt..MY FAVOURITE AUNT!
who will be here tomorrow to visit! yipppeee! zemeira rayne is named after her sorta...the rayne part...lorraine/rainey so... i am cancelling our schooling tomorrow and we will be hanging out in nimshew with the treasure. (sarah, plain & tall for those who don't know, calls the aunts treasures)

oh, Could some one inform a certain guy that i am busy and not his secretary? NOR am i his wife so i have no obligation to do errands for him. thanks! oh and the teen that says she has been living at our house...um i do not know where you have been the last few weeks, but lying always makes things worse. and i am not happy with being apart of a lie....i still love you, but i am not happy.

Your Life is Like
Serendipity
What John Cusack movie are you?

this is entirely true. sam and i met in floridian swamps, international airports, moscow's gardens, and a denver rock concert before we figured out we were supposed to be together!
You Belong in London
A little old fashioned, and a little modern.
A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.
A unique woman like you needs a city that offers everything.
No wonder you and London will get along so well.

What city do you belong in?

"Walkers Don't Have Girls"

i will never forget my inlaws saying that to me! that was 9 years ago. well surprise! a 4th girl! guess it just prooves sam was really adopted! (slightly evil grin inserted here)
my other favourite inlaw sayings are "first wives always leave" and when sam was working at NASA "you would be better off working at McDonald's" (you get free hamburgers don't you know!) note: since hubby made me call about the baby yesterday, they have said nothing.

my family, which is mostly girls for generations, has called repeatedly and is very excited. and everyone loves the name this time, my aunt says she feels like she has crossed over to the darkside. haha. i like FUN names. my grandmama did ask if it was going to be a robert, roberta, or bobbie. (stretches back for generations before her.)

knittingly, i finished vicki's baby hat, shelynn's scarf, and have 6" on the alpaca shawl.
it is really hard NOT starting another thing. but i have to get these done soon.
getting a box together for my secret pal.
this is so much fun.

who was right?

so for months now the Dr has said she was sure she saw "boy parts" before it crossed its legs. but the heart beat has been 150-164. GIRL heart beat! so i refused to buy anything of either sex, cuz i didnt think it was a boy, but didnt want to wind up like our friends with a boy and a pink nursery.
so due to the arranging of a rabbi to come WAY up here if it was a boy, i asked them to check again. and guess what???? boy was the dr surprised! had to triple check.
NO BOY PARTS! i was right. Talia Grace will be born in october. so bella is so excited over a baby girl and chai is pouting cuz there are too many girls. but he isnt too sad. he already has a brother.
now to decide what to knit for a girl baby. i put down the lavendar socks cuz they said it was a boy. gonna have to finish sock #2 now.
any cute patterns you wanna share?

Interweave Crochet

Ok scary ugly hat inspired by prada. ???? stick to shoes and bags@

if this was an pixie halloween costume you could maybe wear it. maybe??? we don't celebrate halloween, so i dont know if this is too weird for even that.... a shakesperean summer festival? or does that insult Puck?

The magazine tried hard i think to make fun "hip" crochet projects but it doesn't really work. the one pattern i want you have to download b/c it isn't in the magazine.

do you think debbie stoller's happy hooker will be as disappointing? it says it is supposed to be fun, original, and not doily inspired. PLEASE be as good as SNB!!!! or at least try hard.

Hurray!!! Sp6 is beginning to go forward! I have several friends in this round. some have their assignments already but some don't. it will be fun when every one is assigned. unfortunately i got mine after a day at my LYS, so i will have to do some shopping either online or wait til my next "trip to town". i think the gas prices have turned me into my grandfather! i love it when he calls, "i am going to town, is there anything you need?" speaking of grandpaw, his nordstrom's shawl now has 25 rows done. not much cuz it is lace weight! but it is soft and cloud like. very wonderful. i hope she will be shawl worthy ( i have had 6 grandmother's growing up ....both grandfather's combined) so i am waiting to see how this goes.

last night went well at knitwits, made some money, paid for the yarn i bought for my dad's ______. ....incase he is reading....the new cascade heathers have a yarn almost crayola midnight blue. it is very nice to just look at. cant wait to start working with it... so i have to get this shawl out of my project bag..LOTS of knitting to do.
Frogged a cashmerino hat. it was looking like some one's sweater! way tooo big!
well 2nd grade math is calling! while he is still excited about math we need to get it done!

Used to have tone of slouchy socks, now ankle socks fill my drawer.
Why did they make the shirt below??? because of Berocco, that is why! And this gypsy thingy to the right!
and just so you know, if you call berocco and tell them there are pattern errors, they are really snooty! and are exempt from gauge. Really they said that! the only scarier patterns are the ones from poor ironstone, they cant even remember how much yarn they used.
so in honor of the ugly gypsy top/vest thing. ..."FRIENDS DON"T LET FRIENDS KNIT UGLY". it maybe the only defense against scary knits like these. ( you can find more to laugh at, with a warning for the language, at: http://youknitwhat.blogspot.com/

discontinued yarns upset knitters

everyone is panicing over the latest discontinued yarns from lionbrand. their site says COTTON THICK & QUICK, MAGIC WRAP , TERRYSPUN , TERRYSPUN , VAN GOGH, WOOLSPUN are all discontinued, but it doesnt say that cotton-ease or wool-ease are, but that 6 of 15 colours of cotton-ease are and out of 74 wool-ease colours 30 are discontinued. so either they have too many of the other colours still, or they are just cutting back on how many colours.
Do you think that means they are clearance priced? check out michael's and joann's to see if they are. cheap mitten yarns for christmas! they aren't yarns i use really so i am not in tears or writing odes to the yarn. ( yes some one did, it was rather cute) too bad they dont kill some of the funfur!

I had hoped to know who my SP5 was before SP6 starts but it doesnt look like that is going to happen. this one was not a very chatty secret pal, so if my SP6 reads this, YOU CAN EMAIL ME! that is half the fun.

we are getting a team together for cleaning up the manton fire. this time of year last year we did fire clean up too. the kids worked really hard. it is good for these kids who have very little to give to those who now have nothing. unfortunately we scheduled classes on 2 saturdays and will be in sacramento the last saturday. so we will see how it works.
and the rain is coming so we need to get things done before it starts since it won't stop til MAY!

The Red Cross was reportedly ready to deliver food, water and other supplies to flood-ravaged refugees who were sweltering inside New Orleans' Superdome last week - but the relief was blocked by bureaucrats who worked for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco.
Fox News Channel's Major Garrett reported Wednesday that the Red Cross had "trucks with water, food, hygiene equipment, all sorts of things ready to go ... to the Superdome and Convention Center."
But the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security, Garrett said, "told them they could not go."
"The Red Cross tells me that Louisiana's Department of Homeland Security said, 'Look, we do not want to create a magnet for more people to come to the Superdome or Convention Center, we want to get them out,'" he explained.
"So at the same time local officials were screaming where is the food, where is the water, the Red Cross was standing by ready [and] the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security said you can't go."

In Baton Rouge, evacuees who left before Katrina hit were removed from their hotel rooms (which they had PAID for), onto the streets for FEMA workers! yes that's right! What little housing they had left was taken and given to FEMA!!

YARN IN MAIL!!!!

yippee!!! the yarn came from knitpicks so i can start on grandpaw's nordstrom's shawl. remember picture posted earlier. the yarn they used was wool with 9% alpaca. ours is alpaca & silk, so it will be better. ;-) it took forever to wind 400 yard hanks. i only got half done yesterday. my arm was killing me!! really going to have to get a winder and a swift!

i made it into quincy to "the wool room" where i shopped the clearance table for some great cascade 220($4.50 each), cotton classic in good colors purples and greens of course ($2 a hank)! lew fell in love with this mohair beret, so we have green mohair for it, and shelynn bought some cascade quatro for a scarf..var. greens. they were so cute looking at the yarn.

taught a hats class last night at knitwits, made $ ;-). it was nice to have a turn out again. now that the weather is changing things are getting busier. this is my last month of classes for awhile. ( baby due in 5 weeks)

everyone has left over yarn, so i thought it would be good to use it to make katrina blankets. it didn't go over. so we will keep it as a youth group project i guess. (if anyone has yarn scraps, email me and you can send them to our p o box) i still have the hideous quilt someone made for us after andrew. ( salvation army btw is way better than the red cross. just remember donating to the red cross it does NOT go directly to katrina hit areas but spread out to all their branches. so give to the salvation army! even annie the knitting heretic agrees.)

oh, and how funny is it to get emails about bush being racist from a racist!!!!! ya right, you go boy, nothing like making yourself look funny. guess clinton musta really hated the blacks and hispanics of homestead, let alone the whites, down there during andrew. isn't new orleans 2/3 black? wonder why there is more of them who need help? maybe cuz there are more of them???? america is really good at blowing things out of porportion and making america look bad to the rest of the world. have you seen what the arab tv stations are playing? just feed them more propaganda guys...they eat it up!

We are off to JoshFest! We have packed a bunch of CD's to be authographed by the bands...about 20 of the 60 that will be there. Not to mention the skateboarding teams, so Chai has has board packed too. While up there i am going to sneak off to The Wool Room and visit Medrith and her yummy yarns.... since it is only RIGHT THERE! it will give this prego a great oppurtunity to knit while the kids rock out. super chick who did the songs for legally blonde and barlow girl will be there which is great for kezzi who wants to play bass.
i still do not know who my secret pal 5 was. due to the weird mail routing, it may take til after the labour day weekend. Gas is $3.09 by the way.
we have not talked to Grandma and Brian in 36 hours (since they got a message thru). Keep praying for the gulf coast! His job and her apartment are obviously lost. kinda hoping they can come home because of it all. still no word from jessie. earl has flooding and no power. he is somewhere in mississippi. 2 women from our church leave to go help with red cross aid relief.
UPDATE: Grandma and brian are on their way to austin texas to be with my aunt. they are going by truck i guess. but the good thing is they are leaving mississippi! still no word on jessie.
