Needling me

What size needles do you use?
well i am glad you asked. i like 11,13, and 6. weird combination i am sure. but! i have never been confused with being conventional! sam says, "but you buy 10's alot" he is right, i do. but! there is a reason for that! there are these girls ages 14-17 who "borrow" needles. so i have a good supply of eraser tops (clearance after school) and dpn bamboos to be lent out, never to be seen again. but i love the afore mentioned sizes. i am trying to finish up some ufo's so i can reclaim a few needles. too many projects. focus, girl!
so sam really hurt his back. the heavy upright piano moving of sunday afternoon agrivated an old injury. so he has a supply of vicodin, strict orders not to lift anything, and a few days off from work. so you might be picturing him on the couch? nooo! he is at the piano, playing rogers and hammerstein by ear, also a veggie tales and worship for youth group medley. which bugs me to no end for i eek out, yes, literally eek out tunes on my violin. and he can pick up some foreign instrument and actually create music from it. annoying!
well i better woo him back to the couch. for he will be abandonned tomorrow for yarn. i will be at knits wits again. hurray!

blah blah blah

this may be yet another blog entry that when i finish, blogger deletes into cyber space.
last night i posted about all the fun stuff we have been up to...but did it save it as i asked? NO!
so forget about all the stuff i did. it was just stuff.
chai lost his front tooth tonight. it was so different than the girls. he was playing with it and suddenly a bit of blood showed up so he went to the bathroom while i looked for a string....not my good yarn, please! and before i could cut a strand he had yanked it out himself! first thought- what a boy! second thought- my baby boy doesn't even need me to get his loose tooth out!
the girls were so panicked over loosing teeth. still they freak out and are terrified even if the tooth is dangling by nothing... with kezzi i can understand the fear. it has been 9 mons and her tooth is finally coming in!
but here is chai, all strong and 100% boy, yanking his tooth out of his head with his bare fingers!
you have to laugh. really. he whines over everything! especially no big deal stuff but stuff like this or when he dislocated his arm... eh, it's nothing!
oh, i finally finished tirzah's super pink scarf. had to get it done before it was too warm to wear.
ah, to live on the east coast again! we had all the windows open today basking in the sunshine. i really want snow...like when we lived in new hampshire and had drifts over the carport, giant snow forts with snow plow help, and family game time. i want to be snow bound!

sp4 has begun. mailed off a package to nameless. and i heard from my secret person. even though jacqueline claims she had no time to match personalities...i think she did a great job.
thanks jacqueline!

Yes!

i logged in from the house! with, i might add the same settings i had earlier this week! sheesh. we had a nice night last night. i must admit i participated in some mischievous antics. we really have a great group of teens. some of them will be graduating this year. we are going to have to do something for the young adult group. i don't want them to get abandoned into the adult world.
the "church ladies" made us chili and nachos! everyone was happy. none was left over! chris showed up just as we were putting in the movie starring him..."larry". it was really funny cuz he didn't expect it. we only showed a clip or two, so the kids will have to go rent it. (it is a free rental at "all the best video".)
sam should hear about the job interview next week. unless someone walks in and smokes him with more experience. it sounded like he had the job. so we shall see. we need it....or is it that we just want it? i do want him to have a computer job again. but really i only want what is best, G-d's best. He has taken care of us so much better than we could have. and i don't want to give up youth group. so as long as it isn't a job that will drain him, just challenge him....it would be good. and a regular paycheck! how lovely would that be!
~*~Yarn~*~
i worked on the blanket the lady asked my to finish. had to pick up so many dropped stitches. if people find knitting ON THE NEEDLES they should leave it on the needles. working on the fringes.
tasha was doing so well with her booties but some one undid them. both cats and siblings are suspects in the case. so i helped her get started again. shelynn decided she wanted to learn to crochet since she has a few knit scarves going now. so i have all these needles and hooks and yarn loaned out amongst various teens. if anyone one has left over scraps, red heart, any yarn or needles or crochet hooks they need to ditch, the magalia pines youth group could use it! sharon has us working on squares for the warm up america project.
well i have to get back to the poor house. it was neglected this week.
and since tirzah decided she was going to eat breakfast before mommie woke up, we can't go get her blood work done now....(her bruises are not going away and its been 3 months almost.) so we can park her on the couch for her bedrest and clean around her.

blog blah's

all of a sudden...i can not log in at home, even after checking cookies settings, rebooting, etc... so while the teens are watching n. dynamite i am in here typing.
hi to kelsey! who is writing on her face with shiny purple markers....
i will be at knitwits all weekend...hopefully not screwing up the cash register. so if any one wants to offer moral support...stop by!
i added a blog for knitwits so we can keep track of classes. please share any class ideas!
www.knitwitsofparadise.blogspot.com

still finishing my secret sister scarf....or tasha's... so i am going to try to get those out of the way next week. however i have 2 jobs to do. fixing a blanket and a hemp-thread irish crochet tablecloth/bedspread thing. i got some black sqiggle i think i will put with either my mikado ribbon or brushed baby alpaca.... what do you think?

what kind of girl was i? well iam not sure. definitely burried in books and imaginary things. anne of greengables, emily of new moon, and redwall were my fave books.

secret pals 4 starts this weekend!

Kick some tukas!

we had our retreat this weekend for the youth/student leaders. focused on Joshua, crossing over jordan...and taking the land....or as duane said "kicking some tukas for G-d". it was a really nice weekend. 2 of our girls who haven't spoken to or about eachother even remotely with kindness the last year, spent all weekend talking, laughing, and stayed up all night together having fun. it was really cool. i hope it extends out of the weekend. the boys seemed to have had a good time ,too. lewis was my partner for the blindfold thing. so here i am...blindfolded, being led by my fave Punk, around a yard that has a cliff on one side. it was actually not scary. i love lew. and then i had to lead him blindfolded. i admit i had too much fun. i kept making him spin in circles and get dizzy.
it was a very encouraging weekend. sam has felt a little weary this week. we had some vandals attack the cars thursday night. mine was washable...ew! but flo will have to pay for repairs to her car. BUT! we have two buff guys who have volunteered to patrol the grounds during youth group. how cool is that? hopefully "r" will stop smoking pot in the woods of his on accord and actually come in for youth group at least once this year.
this week will be a light week. we are showing Napoleon Dynamite at youth group with snacks and stuff...and did i mention idaho/80's costumes???? so i have to shred my pants, crimp my hair, buy some aquanet, locate slouch socks and a giant tshirt i can knot on the side.

YARN NEWS
noro finally made it into the store! half the shipment. made one scarf and have to finish a second one and block it today. next i will make my kureyon kozy from knitty.com. don't you just love knitty?
secretpals4 will be starting soon. i am looking forward to that. i am collecting stuff.... but not packaging it til i know what the person is like. i guess there will be questionnaires to fill out.

things i want to make.....turkish slippers....the misty garden scarf (after i finish my ruffles one), cable scarf from baby alpaca bulky, something like the change purse at knithappens from noro daria, the afore mentioned k.kozy, and my valentine sophie purse, ice cream cozies, and mates for the lonely socks i have.
things to finish: celtic cable ear warmer, baby tart hat, secret sister scarf...before saturday, beaded necklace purse thing, kezzi's fuzzy feet...what am i forgetting?

Roses from japan

i found these wonderful patterns. in japanese of course...
http://www.puppyarn.co.jp/ under school....
i am so thankful i learned how to read a graph or int'l symbol pattern for crochet!
these are wonderful! now i need to learn how to do the same for knitting.
i think i will work on some flowers for valentines day. the big plush ones are so fun.
can you felt irish roses? how about granny squares? what do you think they turn out like?
i think the next bag i make i will toss a rose or two in to felt.

ok the clover hairpin lace thing is $14.95! i think i paid $1.50.... wonder if i can use a coat hanger?
i bet grandpaw can help me make something ......hmmm the susan bates on is $4.95.
see look at this link: http://www.ioffer.com/i/3-Boye-Crochet-Fork-Hairpin-Lace-Spring-Cleaning-2765347
i bet that with that i could bend something into shape in the shop, and not be limited by 4". maybe a 6 inch....or 8 for the big ribbon tapes.....
the yarn rep came to knit wits yesterday. it seems funky colors, sparkles and granny squares are all the rage for the spring season. also i have to find my hairpin lace fork....cuz that is big this season too! where did i put that thing? i don't use it. i bought it on clearance at hobby l0bby before we left denver. i must confess i don't think i have ever used it. now i have to find out how to and teach a class on it. i am sure if i can't find it knitwits will order them but i doubt i will find one anywhere else in this craft forsaken area. so i hope they place the order quickly...if i can't find it.
we did not get the promised 1-3 feet of snow. i was hoping to be snowed in and knitting all weekend.
dave vanore is rarely right any more, but then again....every one of the weather men were wrong.
i miss the snow.

hats are our friends

i finished my pixie hat from amy singer's knit wit book. it took 2 cotton twists and some of plymouth's electra flag yarn. i did not make i cord ties or pick up and seed stitch the bottom. i crocheted a bottom edge and chained the ties.
still finishing the model for my pattern i wrote. using k1c2 sorbet in white. looks very wedding-ish.
speaking of weddings.....paul emailed that he is getting married! in 2-3 mons! i am so excited! i wonder what i can make for them! i love him very much i hope she is fabulous!
she has to be to be marrying paul!

i finished my hat! here it is in profile.

pa reading to the kiddos

i dream in fiber!

inventory at knitwits is all done! but i went home and began dreaming in yarn names.
how weird is that. at least i am not allergic to any of them. poor marlene is allergic to wool.
me...just peaches. nothing normal of course!
sold hat patterns at the store. becoming a professional knitter. which is funny since it's only been 9 mons. i think our current class listing is:felted bags, flower motifs for jackets,etc..,cable scarf, biased or diagonal scarves, decoding patterns, knitting with beads,oh and how to turn your scarves into a poncho. it looks like koolaid dyeing, socks, embellishing your knitting, continental knitting....what else? will be in spring.
you can knit more than scarves!
so i tripped over bella's toy stoller, fell over my violin (not broken thank goodness!) and wound up on my turkish rug. my wrist hurts, my rear, and my foot. i hate toys! the kids will be banished to their rooms forever... but then there is my knitting on the couch, next to the couch, in our bedroom, the car... wonder where they get it from? ;-) sam of course!
he got a job offer for idaho. has an interview today for the county...computers, and another thing in the works for teaching at a school for boys coming out of jail. right now, i don't know what i even want to hope for, except no to idaho.
oh i bought my first packet of cigarettes! how weird is that. i never bought a pack before. i wasn't sure how. THEY WERE NOT FOR ME JUST SO YOU KNOW! my dad would kill me, let alone the kids! but i did get carded. that is twice in the last month! the other was for liquor filled chocaltes from the world market. it was really funny, especially since there are 5 months and 2 wks and a few days til i am 30. at least leeann will go first!

great exploding needles!

look what i found!

London—A 52-year-old mother from Scotland’s remote Shetland Islands knitted her way to international fame on Saturday, in a flurry of needlework that outstitched the competition at the World Speed Knitting Championships. Hazel Tindall set a new world record with her title-winning 255 stitches in three minutes… - far ahead of runner-up Olga Pobedeskaya, of London, who managed 214 stitches in the same time.Defending champion and former world-record holder Wendy Moorby, from West Yorkshire, completed the all-British top three with 207 stitches at the London event.
On Thursday, American author and designer Lily Chin defended her speed crochet title, setting a new world record with 86 triple crochets in three minutes.Tindall said she planned to defend her title next year - as long as the school holiday schedule permitted.

did any one see the exploding needle article made it into vogue knitting?

tsunami

so right before we leave for tsunami 2004, a tsunami hits. how bizaare is that?
we were in san jose for 3 days, 11 of our own teenagers and about 5,000 from the state.
it was really great. only one fist fight that i had to get on lewis for, but he made up for it by giving me yarn from his stash. anyway they took up a collection for tsunami victims overseas. and these teenagers raised about $8,000! i think it was $7,899 exactly. i was so proud of my kids when they, who have so little started pulling money out. for a second offering they raised $6,000. how awesome is that?!
while there i worked on my mikado ribbon arm warmers from the knitter's calendar.
it is about 10" so far. boy are they pretty. this next week i am working at knitwits, inventory time! i also gotta finish this sock/slipper for this guy whose wife lives in a bunny suit. what do you say when some one tells you that???? "sure, i will hop to it?" the toasty toes is working up really nicely though. oh,drat! that lady wanted a purple hat! i forgot about it! better get to crocheting it. crocheting wears out my wrist so i haven't done much since i started knitting! gotta plot out my projects.
knitwits finally got their noro yarn! can't wait! gonna make a tea cozy for my mama.
well it is snowing again, they say it will all week! i am so happy! now if marcus hadn't shared his cold i could be enjoying it!
happy new years! to everybody! this year i resolve to actually use what is in my stash and...record stuff in my knitter's journal.
